Finally... Moth Gets His Turn

Alright my fellow spicy book dragons, we've all been wondering about Moth ever since he first appeared in the series, and let me tell you... Lily Mayne absolutely delivered. If you've been dying to know more about the sarcastic, prickly nomad who always seems to show up with useful information before disappearing again, this is the book you've been waiting for.

Even better? If you've been invested in the mystery surrounding Cat since the beginning of the series, you'll finally start getting some long-awaited answers.

Meet the Couple

Charlie (MMC): Hunter's best friend and former soldier who grew up on a farm before joining the military. Charlie is patient, compassionate, endlessly optimistic, and one of the funniest characters in the series. Whether he's humming when he gets nervous or searching for his next sugary snack, he's impossible not to love.

Moth (Malimoth) (MMC): A half-human, half-salyik nomad who has spent years surviving on his own. Moth comes across as arrogant, prickly, and more than a little feral, but underneath all those sharp edges is someone carrying years of pain and loneliness. Armed with a sword and absolutely zero patience for people he doesn't like, Moth quickly proves there's much more to him than first meets the eye.

What I Loved

The relationship between Charlie and Moth is easily one of my favorites in the series. Charlie refuses to let Moth push him away, while Moth seems determined to stay as grumpy and mysterious as possible. Watching those walls slowly come down was incredibly satisfying.

Their banter had me laughing throughout the entire book. Charlie has a nicknames for some of the monsters they encounter, but when he starts calling one group "Finger Fuckers," I completely lost it. I laughed so hard reading that scene, and Moth trying not to laugh made it even better.

It's moments like these that make the romance feel so natural. Their relationship isn't built overnight. It grows through long conversations, shared dangers, awkward moments, and learning to trust one another.

Another Incredible Adventure

One thing I love about the Monstrous series is that every romance feels like a full fantasy adventure. Charlie and Moth's journey takes them through abandoned prisons, dangerous cities, raider markets, monster attacks, military encounters, and plenty of unexpected twists. There were so many moments where I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen next.

One of my favorite quieter moments happens after Moth buys Charlie a scarf at the raider market. It's such a small gesture, but it says so much about how their relationship is changing. Then there are the moments that had me laughing, like Charlie accidentally walking in on a very naked Moth before they awkwardly have to share a bed. Classic romance chaos.

Secrets, Twists, and Plenty of Heart

Without spoiling too much, Moth's past ended up being one of the most interesting parts of the entire book. The more Charlie learns about him, the more you understand why Moth keeps everyone at arm's length. Watching him slowly open up made every emotional moment hit even harder.

The search for Cat also kept me completely invested. Every clue made me want to keep reading, and just when I thought everything was finally falling into place, Lily Mayne threw another twist into the story that left me staring at the page thinking...

Not again!

The Verdict

Highly Recommended For: Fans of grumpy x sunshine romances, monster adventures, hilarious banter, found family, road trip romances, emotional slow burns, and readers who love a romance with plenty of action.

Moth was another fantastic addition to the Monstrous series. Charlie absolutely stole every scene he was in with his humor and endless optimism, while Moth slowly became one of my favorite monsters in the entire series. Their chemistry was fantastic, the adventure never slowed down, and the emotional payoff was well worth the journey.

I also have to give an honorable mention to Moth's adorable little spiky monkey monster, Chuck. That tiny creature completely won me over, and once you read the story you'll understand exactly why his name made me laugh. Between the action, the romance, the laughs, the spice, and finally getting some long-awaited answers about Cat, this was another book I couldn't put down.

Happy reading, and remember my fellow spicy book dragons, before starting a book please check the tropes, and always check for trigger warnings. Nobody likes an unfinished book because the tropes aren't your cup of tea or having a bad reading experience because of unexpected trigger warnings.
