Sometimes Love and Hate Are Closer Than We Think
If you've been reading the North Shore Titans series, you've probably been wondering about Zach. He's always been one of the quieter, more mysterious members of the team, and after finishing Forbidden Titan, I can honestly say his story completely changed the way I looked at his character.
While this wasn't my favorite book in the series, it was still an emotional and worthwhile read that tackled some heavier themes than the previous installments.
Meet the Couple
Zach (MMC): Quiet, protective, possessive, and more than a little unhinged. After suffering a traumatic brain injury as a child, Zach lives with permanent damage that affects the way he processes emotions, experiences pain, and even tastes food. He also has lasting nerve damage from another childhood injury, making him one of the most complex characters in the series.
Merci (MMC): Witty, sarcastic, and just as unhinged in his own way. Beneath his sharp tongue is someone carrying deep emotional scars from an abusive childhood. His claustrophobia and fear of the dark have shaped much of his life, making him an incredibly sympathetic character from the very beginning.
What I Loved
This book is easily the most emotional installment in the series. Unlike the previous books, where the tension came from rivalries or forbidden attraction, Forbidden Titan centers around years of guilt, misunderstandings, and unresolved trauma.
When Zach and Merci first become stepbrothers as teenagers, one terrible night changes both of their lives forever. The fallout leaves physical and emotional scars that neither of them ever truly recovers from, and watching those events slowly unravel throughout the story kept me completely invested.
Five years later, fate throws them back together, forcing them to confront everything they tried to leave behind.
What I appreciated most was that E.V. Olsen didn't make their relationship easy. Zach and Merci have every reason to resent one another, and rebuilding that trust takes time. As secrets come to light and old wounds begin to heal, their relationship slowly transforms from anger into genuine understanding.
The emotional growth between these two was my favorite part of the book.
I also enjoyed learning more about Zach's brain injury and how it affects his daily life. It made him feel like a much deeper character than he initially appeared in the earlier books, and it helped explain so many of his actions and struggles.
Of course, this wouldn't be a North Shore Titans book without plenty of spice.
The BDSM elements fit naturally into Zach and Merci's relationship, highlighting the trust they slowly build together throughout the story. Fans looking for high heat definitely won't be disappointed. And yes, my fellow spicy book dragons... there are not one, but two pierced cocks, which definitely caught me by surprise.
One of the most powerful scenes for me involved Merci's claustrophobia. Without giving too much away, a terrifying situation forces Zach to become the one person capable of helping Merci through one of his worst fears. It was an incredibly emotional moment that showed just how far both characters had come.
The final chapters also delivered some satisfying family moments, as long-hidden truths finally come to light and Zach begins confronting the events that shaped his entire life. Seeing both characters choose healing over resentment made their happily ever after feel well deserved.
The Verdict
While Forbidden Titan wasn't my favorite book in the North Shore Titans series, it was still an enjoyable read with a compelling emotional journey. If you enjoy forbidden romance, emotionally damaged characters finding healing together, BDSM, possessive heroes, and plenty of spice, I think you'll have a great time with this one.
E.V. Olsen continues to prove that even in novella form, she can create memorable characters, emotional romances, and enough chemistry to keep me coming back for more. By the time I finished this book, I was more than ready to dive into the final Titan story.
